ABSTRACT

"No place is without genius" wrote a fourth-century rhetorician, a witness that every corner of space has its own invisible quality. The god of the place was a certainty, like the rising of the sun.

The god of crossings presides over the meadows of San Bartolomeo in the Terminillo massif as well as the Karakorum Highway or theย routesย of North America. Theย The genius of the placeย it reveals itself in the high-altitude villages of the Homboro valley in Pakistan as well as in Prague or Berlin. The author comes across the genius of the Siberian woods and the divinities of the Peruvian Andes; but also buildings, walls, towers and factories behave like natural environments.

The travel story is accompanied by a journey through the thought and works of the ancient and contemporary world: from Plotinus to Jung, from Plato and Bachelard, from Leopardi to Hillmann, from Greek myths to Chinese wisdom culture.

Orphans of ancient myths, we have not had enough time to consolidate new ones and our disillusioned and predatory attitude relegates us to a desacralized space, in a painful relationship with the Earth, with a Cosmos that no longer animates.

Going back to where we no longer see anything is possible.
