Out now! "Zothique n.6: Gustav Meyrink special"

He's out the new album of ZOTHIQUE, magazine of fiction and fantastic culture published by Dagon Press, entirely dedicated to the Austrian writer Gustav Meyrink, author of some of the most important esoteric novels of the early twentieth century such as "The Golem", "The green face" and "The angel of the western window". Among the contributions in this issue there is also one of our full-bodied essays dedicated to “The Doctrine of Awakening: the essays of G. Meyrink”.

Introduced by a beautiful cover by Gino Carosini (also author of the internal illustrations) the new issue of ZOTHIQUE, the sixth, once again entirely dedicated to a cult author of the weird genre. In this case, the writer who is going to deepen is a true master of fantastic-esoteric fiction, that Gustav Meyrink author of a true masterpiece of the genre, "The Golem”, But also of many other novels and short stories that have made the history of occult literature.


In this special, his entire production, both fiction and non-fiction, is analyzed in detail. It starts with a comprehensive as well as authoritative introductory piece by Gianfranco de Turris, perhaps the greatest Italian expert on the works of Meyrink, who in “The Esoteric Fantasy of Gustav Meyrink” tells us about the strong link between the writer's life and work; Meyrink's writings are in fact pervaded by true arcane knowledge that the writer really acquired through his research and personal studies or by attending the numerous esoteric circles of his time. Following, Matthew Mancini casts a long and detailed look at Meyrink's short fiction, analyzing in detail all his stories translated and published in Italy. While Cesare Buttaboni he focuses on the writer's longest production, starting from “Il Golem”, the most famous novel, up to the unfinished short story “La Casa dell'Alchinista”.

A 360 ° look at Meyrink's writings, which is completed by Marco Maculotti which speaks to us with competence of the doctrine of the "Mystical Awakening" which is the basis of Meyrink's essays, a production no less important than fiction. A classic translated for the first time in Italy by Angelo S. Rappoport (1871-1950), a scholar who thoroughly analyzed Jewish legends and who illustrates the birth and origin of the Golem, the clay monster that bewitched Meyrink's imagination.

So we come to the highlight of this special: three stories by the Austrian writer still unpublished by us! But that's not all: the final piece by one of the writer's biographers introduces us to the circumstances of Gustav Meyrink's strange death, which was almost as fantastic an event as his stories!
