ABSTRACT

Did the Etruscans passively accept the Greek myth or did they have their own mythology? At a superficial glance it seems that the Etruscan mythological imagery is wholly dependent on Greek culture. But if we go to observe some artistic artifacts in which characters completely unknown to the Greek tradition appear, such as Vanth, Pava Tarchies and Lasa Vecu, and if we enter the deepest meanderings of classical literature, in which we find the stories of Tages and the Nymph Vegoia, Porsenna and the monster Volta, we realize that a real Etruscan mythology existed.

ANDREW VERDECCHIA

Born in Senigallia in 1982. After graduating in pharmacy in Urbino in 2011, he embarked on an independent course of study in the history of religions. Subsequently, in 2019, he began a course of study in ancient history at the University of Macerata. Before the publication of "Etruscan Mythology" for the Effigi editions (August 2022) his fame in the mythical-traditional field was due to the drafting of the full-bodied volume "I Miti Italici", published for the Cerchio in 2016.
